Teachers—Who’s who (and when!):
As I’m sure you have worked out by now I (Mrs Herbert) am the class teacher on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Fraser works Thursday and Friday. Mrs Allen is our regular Teaching Assistant (although we will have Mr Mackriell on Tuesday and Friday afternoons). Our PPA time is being covered by Mrs Lock this term and will be Wednesday afternoons and every other Thursday afternoon. Please rest assured that Mrs Fraser and I work very closely together, so should you have an issue, or need to speak to one of us, messages do get passed on, therefore it doesn’t matter who you see —we try to make our week as seamless as possible so the children have consistency and continuity.
Spellings: Come home on a Monday, test the following Monday (books in that day).
Reading: Children should still be reading at least 3x a week at home. They should still be reading aloud at times and it is really important that they discuss what they have read with someone else (or that you check they understand the meaning of words—it’s amazing what they can read without knowing the meaning!).
Times tables: Friday
Mrs Herbert Homework: Out on a Mrs Herbert day, due in on a Monday (literacy, science or topic based).
Mrs Fraser Homework: Out on a Mrs Fraser day, due in the following Thursday (maths).
Please try to encourage the children to take pride in their work and complete it on time and in neat joined handwriting where appropriate. When finished, children can place it in our boxes in the classroom.
Children will need their PE kit in school all week as we are keen to do as much as possible, however our set times are Wednesday mornings and Friday afternoons.
In the Summer term (7th and 8th June), we will be once again returning to Holmbury Youth hostel to take part in a residential (overnight) visit. We will be working on some outdoor skills, including furthering our work on habitats. It is a great milestone for the children, and a fabulously safe place for us to go. We’d like to fill you in in more detail at a meeting next Thursday, just before the end of school (see dates section).
We are part of a singing project with other Year 4 classes in Henley. 2 members of the A Cappella group Apollo 5 are coming to school to work on 3 performance pieces with the children. This ultimately concludes in a performance held in the Christchurch Centre (one afternoon and one evening—see dates).
If you have a little spare time you can donate to use, then we’d love to have some volunteers to hear some readers. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings 9—9:30 would be best!
Show and Tell:
We are always interested to hear what the children have been up to out of school! If they have something topic related or particularly interesting, then we will try to find a moment to share it, however, we do not, unfortunately, have time to do regular show and tell so please try to keep it to a minimum!
