We hope you all had a lovely summer break and are pleased to welcome you back to a new term and a new nursery year. We would like to welcome all the new children and look forward to getting to know them and their families. We also hope you will wish a warm welcome to Sarah Allwood, the new teacher for Bishopswood.
This term’s topic is ‘Houses and homes’ and we will be planning our activities around this topic as follows:
Weeks 1 & 2 (4th – 15th September)
Welcome to Orchard class
Weeks 3 & 4 (18th – 29th September)
Weeks 5 & 6 (2nd – 13th October)
Week 7 (16th – 20th October)
All about Autumn
Over the course of the term to tie in with our topic focus we might be making some local outings around Henley; short walks to look at different houses, listening walks linked to phonics, and an Autumn walk in the woods. There is permission slip at the end of this letter; please sign and send back to us to confirm you are happy for your child to join us on these outings.
We are starting an ‘All about me’ display in the nursery so we would love for you to bring in a family photo for this.
Each child has a named tray in the entrance hall for their pictures, crafts and newsletters. Please make sure that you check your child’s tray at home time.
Parents’ contributions enable us to buy ingredients for cooking and baking and also ingredients for sensory and messy play. We request £1 per week making a total of £14 for the period from September to the Christmas holidays. Contributions are voluntary and you can pay this at a frequency that suits you in cash or by cheque (made payable to Valley Road School). Thank you in anticipation for your contributions.
We have had new bolts fitted to the outside gate, please make sure that you close and bolt both sides of the gate securely on entry and departure. Also, please do not let your child or younger siblings play on the outside equipment in the nursery playground before and after the nursery sessions.
If someone else is collecting your child from nursery, please let us know in advance. You can always give us a call during the session if your plans change.
The activities the children engage in during nursery sessions often involve messy play. We do our best to cover up the children’s clothes but accidents do happen. We would be grateful if you could provide your child with a change of clothes for those inevitable spills and accidents, which can be kept on their peg.
As the children are running and climbing outside, please make sure they wear sensible footwear and as the weather is likely to change, we would recommend bringing a pair of wellies and a raincoat to keep in school. Lastly, please ensure all clothing and belongings are labelled clearly.
If your child has had sickness or diarrhoea you MUST allow 48 hours before returning them to nursery. Please give us a call if your child is not able to attend nursery for any reason.
In the case of Chickenpox, please ensure all spots have scabbed over before sending your child back to nursery as the virus can still be contagious if not.
We would also like to make you aware that we have had cases of headlice in the past so please do keep checking your child’s hair regularly and if you need any advice please ask.
We have a child with a severe nut allergy in nursery so we ask that you are thorough in checking that there are No nuts or products containing nuts in your child’s lunchbox.
We also have a member of staff with an allergy to paracetamol so we ask that you let a member of staff know on arrival at nursery if your child has had any medicine containing paracetamol.
