Welcome to Orchard class! We look forward to getting to know you and your child/children. Here is just a little bit about our class and some information we think you may find useful.
In Orchard class Robbyn McGregor is the nursery teacher and Alison Thompson the nursery nurse. Nikki Warren, Nikki Starr and Sarah York will be supervising lunch times. Heather Cannan will cover Robbyn’s planning/prep and NQT time on Wednesday mornings.
In the Bishopwood team, Carol Parrey shares the teaching role with Lorna Culpan. Carol works from Monday to Wednesday and Lorna works Thursday and Friday. The other staff; Sharon, Jenny, Cara, Celine, Lisa and Ria complete the Bishopswood team.
This term’s topic is ‘Tell me a story’ and we will be planning our activities around this topic as follows:
Weeks 1,2 & 3 settling in & nursery rhymes
Weeks 4 & 5 Goldilocks and the three bears & The three little pigs
Week 6 The enormous turnip
Weeks 7 & 8 Cinderella & Harvest time
This term we have a classroom display called ‘This is me’ and each child will have a space with their name, on which photos, mark making, crafts and things to show from home will be displayed. This will be an on-going display so it will be added to and updated as the term goes on. Please could you bring in a family photo to display on our board for the children to see (photos of pets are also welcome!)
Each child has a named tray in the entrance hall for their pictures, crafts and newsletters. We advise that if children do bring any toys in from home, they are put in their trays for safe keeping. Please make sure that you check your child’s tray at home time.
Parents’ contributions enable us to buy cooking ingredients, snacks and sensory materials. This term we are requesting £1 per week (£7 for this half of term and £7 for next making a total of £14 from September until the Christmas break) and you can pay this at a frequency that suits you. Contributions are voluntary and can be paid by cash or cheque (made payable to Valley Road School). Thank you for your contributions.
Please make sure that you always close the gate and bolt it every time you enter or leave the outside area. Also, please do not let your child or younger siblings play on the outside equipment or in the covered areas outside of nursery and reception before and after the nursery sessions.
The activities the children engage in during nursery sessions often involve messy play. We do our best to cover up the children’s clothes but accidents do happen. We would be grateful if you could provide your child with a change of clothes for those inevitable spills.
As the children are running and climbing outside, please make sure they wear sensible, weather appropriate footwear. As the weather is likely to change, we would recommend bringing a pair of wellies to keep in school. Lastly, please ensure all clothing and belongings are labelled clearly.
If your child has been sick/unwell, you MUST allow 48 hours before returning them to nursery. Please give us a call if your child is not able to attend nursery for any reason.
